Structure of the Watershed Research and Education Program (WREP)

The WREP:
- ...is based on a
gift of $30,000 from SRP per year over the 5-year period 2004-2009.
- ...benefits from additional
significant financial underwriting and sponsorship by the
U.S. Bureau of
Reclamation (USBR, also known as Reclamation).
- In addition, SRP has made available $20,000/year over
this same 5-year period for sponsored research projects:
SRP Sponsored Research Program.
- ...is managed by a Director (NAU faculty member),
who develops long-term financial
support for the program, develops and coordinates a research program, fosters
an education and outreach program, supervises web site development, attends
watershed meetings and other functions, and acts as spokespersons for
program activities on campus. The Director is responsible for
developing and coordinating their own research program based on externally
generated funds, independent of the WREP.
- ...sponsors a faculty-directed
student-oriented research program that addresses issues, problems and
projects of interest to the watershed stakeholder community. Three
grants a year are competitively available each spring.
- ...maintains this website.
- ...benefits from an
Advisory Board consisting of
stakeholder representatives. Board membership includes individuals from SRP;
Tribes; the U.S.D.A. Forest Service, U.S. Bureau Of Reclamation and other
federal agencies; Northern Arizona University; the Arizona Department of Water Resources
and other state agencies; and others from non-governmental
organizations (NGOs), K-12 educational organizations, county and other governments. Two meetings per year are held at
various locations.
- ...organizes and holds an
annual event.
