Ash Fork Stone Dam is a railroad water supply dam built in 1911 by the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company. The Ash Fork Development Association has been using the reservoir impounded by the dam as a source of fire protection water, and wanted a report on the condition of the dam. Their biggest concern was several large cracks in the surface of the dam.

In general, the dam is in good condition. The cracks that can be seen on the faces of the dam do not pose a threat to the structure. There is a stream channel that runs parallel to the dam's face on the left side embankment, that is undercutting its foundation, but this is the only problem with the structure. The dam is currently licensed by the Arizona Department of Water Resources to hold water to its crest.

The dam will safely pass the 100-year 24-hour storm flood event of 10,460 cubic feet per second. The headwater behind the dam will be 3.19 feet above the crest during this flooding event. The dam's maximum storage capacity is 73.4 million gallons.
